Pre-onboarding retention, or don't lose your new hire!
Ron Lichty
Consultant: Interim VP Engineering, & Author, Managing the Unmanageable
Ron Lichty Consulting, Inc.
We made our hiring decision. Our candidate accepted. Signed, sealed, delivered! All that’s left is to do our part to be ready to receive and onboard them on their first day, right? Not so fast. Ever hire someone who didn’t show up for their first day? I have. And when I ask around - and I’ve asked a lot of managers - I’ve discovered that not only am I not alone, but it’s happened to a lot of us. Don’t let it happen to you. (Or happen to you again.) OK, no guarantees, but a ton of tips gleaned from experience (and experiences of our peers) for increasing the odds that in your management lifetime you won’t find yourself in a new hire’s rear view mirror before they’ve even begun!

Recruiting and retaining engineers in today’s climate is not easy. However, we are going to make it easier by discussing best practices, sharing learnings, success stories and searching for solutions together. We are focused especially on Attracting top talent (brand, comp, mission, positioning, outreach), hiring geographies, interviewing, onboarding, retention, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion topics but also are open to discussing other challenges connected to the Talent subject.
