Operational Maturity: Reactive to Proactive
Matthew Fornaciari
CTO & Cofounder
Gremlin
In recent years applications have grown increasingly complex with the advent of microservices, while the rate of change has skyrocketed due to the adoption of CI/CD. Unfortunately, not all organizations have adapted the way they operate to match the inclusion of these new technologies and design patterns. Instead many cling to the current paradigm of waiting for issues to arise, oftentimes in production, and addressing them in real-time. In a world that is increasingly reliant on technology, one in which “downtime” has become a dirty word, a reactive approach to operations no longer matches customer expectations. This new world demands proactively poking and prodding our systems to suss out incidents before they affect customers.
